The Chinese soccer league is looking to strike again. After securing the services of Chelsea's Oscar and Boca Juniors' Carlos Tevez, the league could be on the verge of breaking the world-record transfer fee.
Shanghai SIPG has offered $156 million to Borussia Dortmund for striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The transfer fee record was just set again this summer when Manchester United paid $109 million to Juventus for Paul Pogba.
Of course, this is now getting crazy. China is a country with very little soccer history, but big-time money has seen talent flock there, most recently Axel Witsel after leaving Zenit.
Don't get me wrong -- Aubameyang is a tremendous player. He has 100 goals in 165 games for Dortmund and has become a world star with speed and brilliant finishing. At the age of 27, he has been linked with many top clubs including Real Madrid, but this potential move is just showing China's strength. That amount of money is almost impossible for any club to turn down for any player, aside from Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo.
We'll see what Dortmund does in the end. But it's an offer that is so hard to refuse and one that could change the landscape of world soccer forever.
