"I Will Not Step Down" - Yahya Jammeh, Gambian President

Gambian President Yahya Jammeh said he would not  step down and denounced intervention by West African local alliance ECOWAS that intends to motivate him to leave control after he lost a Dec. 1 race to challenger Adama Barrow.

The remarks on state TV late on Tuesday were a solidifying of the veteran president's position after days in which trusts mounted he could be induced to hand over power toward the end of his order on Jan. 18, when Barrow is expected to be initiated.

"I am not a weakling. My privilege can't be threatened and damaged. This is my position. No one can deny me of that triumph aside from the Almighty Allah," Jammeh said.

"As of now the ECOWAS meeting was a convention. Before they came, they had as of now said Jammeh must stride down. I won't venture down," he said.

Jammeh at first acknowledged the consequences of a decision whose result was seen crosswise over Africa as a snapshot of trust. He is blamed by human rights bunches for the confinement, torment and slaughtering of saw adversaries amid his 22-year run the show.

On Dec. 9, he turned around his position and said he would challenge in the nation's Supreme Court the aftereffects of a race he said was loaded with inconsistencies.
