Victor Moses was in action for Chelsea who moved six points clear of in the English Premier League log with a 1-0 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light report on Wednesday.
Cesc Fabregas scored the only goal of the encounter for Antonio Conte's men in the 40th minute to condemn the Black Cats to their 11th defeat of the campaign.
Adnan Januzaj had the first chance on goal cutting inside onto his left foot, but his shot was deflected wide by Gary Cahill.
In a keenly contested game,the Spanish star who was making his third start of the campaign, played a one-two with Willian just at the edge of the Sunderland box before side-footing his strike past Pickford for his first goal in the EPL.
In the second half, Sunderland had a chance in the 52nd minute to restore parity when Jermain Defoe picked out Januzaj on the right of the penalty area and he only has Courtois to beat. However, the Belgian stopper stretched his leg wide to well to divert the ball behind for a corner.
In stoppage time, Patrick van Aanholt also saw his shot saved by Courtois who kept another clean sheet.
It's Chelsea's tenth consecutive win of the season.
Nigeria international, Moses who was making his 15th appearance for the Blues this term had three attempts before he was replaced by Branislav Ivanovic in the 90th minute.
His compatriot, John Obi Mikel was not listed for the encounter.
At the Riverside, a brace from Adam Lallana and a brilliant strike from Divock Origi earned Liverpool a 3-0 win over Middlesbrough. The win ended the Reds two game win-less streak in the EPL.
Lallana headed in the opener in the 24th minute to hand Jurgen Klopp's side the lead into the interval. On the hour mark, Divock Origi made 2-0 before Lallana completed his brace eight minutes later.
The win means that Liverpool move to second spot, six points behind league leaders Chelsea ahead of Monday's Merseyside derby against Everton, while Middlesbrough drop down to 17th in the table, just three points clear of the relegation zone.
At the Olympic Stadium, Mark Noble grabbed the match winner for West Ham from the spot as they defeated Burnley by a lone goal.
Noble poked home the rebound following Tom Heaton's penalty save from his own spot kick on the stroke of half time.
The win which boosted the Hammers Premier League survival hopes was their fourth of the season having lost eight times and drawn four games.
