The Speaker of the House of Representatives on Tuesday admitted that the leadership of the All Progressives Party has made a lot of mistakes which the party was making efforts to address.
Dogara said that it would amount to self-deceit for the party to assume that mistakes had not been made when plenty of such mistakes had been recorded in the party.
Dogara made the comment while speaking with journalists shortly after a meeting of a delegation of the leadership of the House of Representatives with the National Working Committee of the party led by the Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said the meeting dwelt of critical issues which included the relationship between the leadership of the party and the executive and the relationship between the National Assembly in a bid to fashion out ways to forge ahead. The House of Reps delegation included the Deputy Speaker Yusuf Lasun, the House Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila and the Majority Whip, Alhassan Ado-Dogowa.
According to him, the APC would not run away from its mistakes which he said were plenty, insisting that it would be impossible to have a party without challenges and problems.
However, he stressed that the party as a family had dealt with the identified family issues which would not be brought to the attention of the public.
He said, “Very frank exchanges took place during this first impactful and engaging meeting with stakeholders of the party and we discussed quite a lot of issues including the relationship between the leadership and the executive, the relationship of the leadership of the National Assembly with the executive all in a bid to fashion out ways by which we can face the future.
“We are all united as a family in the APC. We also looked at the challenges facing the party and we were able to fashion out ways by which we can address those challenges.
“If you don’t expect mistakes you will be dealing with a situation, you will have a situation where ghosts will be taking charge. As long as it is a human institution where human beings are involved, no human being is perfect. In a situation where you don’t have perfection, certainly, there will be mistakes.
